The Malu Lani sits on property that was originally surveyed and sold in 1908 as part of "Kreamers Subdivision" which emcompassed all of Bocilla Island.   The "Cottage" was the first known dwelling on the propertry, it was brought over on a barge from Ft Myers.  In those days, all the properties on Bocilla Ln stretched from Charlotte Harbor to Jug Creek and was only accesible by boat (see map below).

   

1968 the Inn was constructed and Cottage moved to it's current location.  

 

In 1978, Ron & Sharon discovered the Malu Lani Inn on their last day of day of a trip to Florida in search of a vacation property to purchase.  It was "love at first sight" for Sharon and as they say,,,, the rest is history.   It was owned and managed with a personal touch by the Janus family (Ron, Sharon & Dave) for the next 47 years!

In the fall of 2025, the Heflin's first visited the Malu Lani Inn in the same fashion as Ron & Sharon... on what turned out to be the end of an extensive search for that perfect place "somewhere in the sun".    In Decemer of 2025, Aubrey & Michelle Heflin took the helm and began the next chapter of Malu Lani's history.   With the Heflin's as propreitors the focus on genuine hospitality continues along with a focus on continuos improvement... guests can count on each stay being better than the last.  The best is yet to come!!
